phd collaborations

Doctoral research students play a major part in the research life of the Museum.  At any time, there are more than 30 research students working with staff on a wide range of topics.

Most of the students we support have been funded through the AHRC’s Collaborative Doctoral Awards and Collaborative Doctoral Partnership schemes, but others have been funded by the Leverhulme Trust, the Wellcome Trust and Universities.

Our preferred way to work with research students is the collaborative doctoral model with full joint supervision by a member of museum staff with a member of university staff; and where the subject matter clearly supports the work of the museum.

The Museum has an allocation of fully funded collaborative research studentships through the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership scheme to award to projects.  We also welcome approaches from universities to fund other collaborative students in different ways.
